It should be noted here that Reiki is not considered an alternative treatment to cancer. Reiki is used as a complementary treatment and should not be taken as a primary method of dealing with diseases of this nature. Doing so can be very risky.

Reiki is great at mitigating the stresses and side effects from the disease and the treatments. Chemotherapy, for example, is notoriously harsh on the human body, especially when receiving large doses to treat aggressive types of cancer such as mesothelioma. Sessions tend to leave patients completely debilitated and in excruciating pain. This pain is often treated with pharmaceuticals. However, these drugs leave side effects that are very difficult to handle. For this reason, many patients switch out their pills for Reiki sessions; either that, or they work out a balance of the two.

Although widely used, Reiki is not altogether accepted in the western medical community. That being said, there are many locations across the country where Reiki practitioners are working regularly with patients in conjunction with other medical cancer professionals. Each year, its acceptance in the general public and medical community as a viable complimentary therapy for cancer is growing.

If you or a loved one is looking into Reiki as a complimentary therapy for cancer, then there are some misconceptions you should be aware of regarding the practice. First of all, it is not massage. Reiki involves energy transmission through magnetic fields and is not dependent upon touch. Secondly, it is not a religion. It is, however, a spiritual art, which means that it uses principles of spiritual energy and energy transmission. There are, however, no rules and creeds such as with religions.

To find a Reiki friendly medical community or a practitioner, you can contact one of many groups or organizations for assistance, such as the American Cancer Society.

I’m feeling a real connection to the Earth, a grounding. There is a perfect stillness in motion as I sit as the witness. The fog rolls in and out,  clouds drift and rise as the birds circle and dive. The rippling of the water reminds me that I am that, the water, the rippling, the peace and the stillness.

Just for today, I will be at peace.

Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings.

Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

Just for today, I will show love and respect for every living thing.

Look deeper than the package their message is coming to you in, no matter how suspicious, and recognize the message at the core. No matter what the details, or information being delivered, the essence will always be the same, all anyone is ever saying, is I love you.

Now it is time to settle in and ground myself in new suroundings. I am fortunate enough to have this incredible provincial park in my backyard. Seriously, I can walk out the back door and hike up to this amazing water fall. It is a truly magical place. There is something about the sound of rushing water, and the feel of it as it sprays a mist onto your face. One can’t help but to be in the moment, in the right now as I stand watching the water as it falls down the mountainside and flows down the stream. Perfect stillness in motion. Silence amongst the crashing and roaring water falls.

Total stillness of being comes when all resistance to movement is absent.

When all resistance to movement is absent,

there is complete stillness, an alive stillness,

a vital stillness which is pure movement without resistence.

What will this new spring bring? New friends, new adventures a deeper sense of what life has to offer and what it can take away, we must wait and see.

I read these words. Are they mere words? Do these words have any real truth to them? Not too long ago, they were just words for my mind to ponder. Now, when I read these words about essence, I can feel the truth of these words in every cell of my body. It’s not just in my mind for me to imagine and wonder how to make me feel this way.

This is how living the truth happens, living an awakened life. It is when there is a deep realization that the essence of life is living this life. There isn’t a “me” that is living a life.  This essence is everything and everywhere. It is the energy of life, the movement, the dance. Here I am (the essence) watching it all through these eyes.

I have asked myself these questions at many different points in my life. Of course we have to make a living and support our families and deal with life’s many challenges along the way. Sometimes we come to crossroads where we are given opportunities to make changes. It is at these moments where there may be space created to review our current life’s directions and where we are focusing our energy.

Where there is energy there is power. Take a moment to analyze where your energy is strongest. What gets you exited in life? Where is your passion? Is there any way to channel this energy into creating new oppurtinities for yourself? Can you take back your dream? Are we really as limited as we thought we were, or are we limitless and boundless spirits with the ability to create and live out our dreams?
